SMART's Objective:

SMART Telecom set out to serve the growing Indonesian market with a consumer offering that rests upon a mobile telephony solution with built-in banking capabilities. The purpose is to bank the unbanked Indonesian population through mobile handsets.

SMART turned to Trivnet in order to make this offering a reality. Trivnet was instrumental in establishing the following key services and their ability to support 6M transactions per day:
  • Mobile banking
  • Payments for digital and physical goods and services
  • Airtime top-up
  • Peer-to-peer fund transfer
  • Mobile agent distribution network
  • Loyalty and incentive programs
The Trivnet Solution:

Smart selected Trivnet because its platform met all of the required criteria—most notably:
  • Security
  • Ease of use
  • Simple manageability
  • Straightforward deployment
The first phase was the implementation of Mobile Agent services, enabling prepaid subscribers to top-up their account with airtime at point-of-sale locations of mobile agents across Indonesia. The Mobile Agent module enables SMART to create and manage virtual distribution chains of resellers running on Over-the-Air applications, as well as on standard SMS. Mobile Agents can use Trivnet’s distributor self-care application to manage their account and view reports. The system is multi-lingual (English and Bahasa) and supports the local currency.

The first phase also included Peer-to-Peer services, providing SMART's customers with the ability to transfer balance from one customer's postpaid account to another customer's prepaid account.

The final portion of the first phase was the implementation of the Trivnet Administrator Application, providing SMART with the ability to completely manage customer profiles and define system configurations.

The second phase of the implementation was the addition of in-system support of debit cards. This was a key aspect of the implementation due to the fact that every subscriber and Mobile Agent is provided a debit card directly by SMART. Supporting services included:
  • Electronic Top-up – Providing customers with the ability to top-up their prepaid accounts with their debit card accounts.
  • Peer-to-Peer – Providing customers the ability to transfer balance from one customer debit card account to another customer prepaid/debit card account.
Solution Implementation:

Trivnet has successfully completed migration of its TRIV Platform™ to Sun Solaris 10 operating system. First customer benefiting from the latest Sun OS is Smart Telecom in Indonesia, “Our TRIV Platform™ was implemented on Sun Solaris infrastructure, allowing us to deliver real time remittance and mobile commerce services anywhere anytime with a simple click of a button”, said Mr. Joey V. The specific hardware platform contains redundant CoolThreads T2000 servers running the TRIV Platform™ applications and modules, SunFire V890 servers running Oracle Database with RAC and Sun shared storage. The capacity of the specific deployment reaches hundreds transactions per seconds allowing smooth and continuous operation for the customer.
